Installing Office 2019 Volume License

Office 2019 Volume License installation has a new installation process.  Here's the process I've successfully used.

  1. Download the Office Deployment Tool from here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49117
  2. Create a new file called config.xml in the folder with the decompressed contents of the Office Deployment tool with the content referenced at the bottom of this post.  Make sure to add your own Office license MAK key in the PIDKEY area.
  3. From a DOS prompt, navigate to the folder where the files are stored and run:
    setup.exe /download config.xml
  4. Wait 30 minutes
  5. From a DOS prompt, navigate to the folder where the files are stored and run:
    setup.exe /configure config.xml

Submitting phishing and spam emails to Office365 for analysis

I found this link for how you can forward emails that are spam or phishing that are not caught by the Office365 junk filter for further analysis:

Calling Office365 support

Microsoft seems to make it as difficult as possible to find the number for phone support for Office365.  After going through the trials and tribulations of finding it, I'm putting it here:

downloading hotfixes from Microsoft (in this case 943545 - storport)

I was attempting to get a hotfix for the storport driver for Windows Server 2003 x86, but the KB page wouldn't give me a link for it. After some research, I found that if you go this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=943545&kbln=en-us

And then adjust the KB number in the URL, it'll take you to the appropriate hotfix. In my case, KB 943545 was what I was looking for.

The KB article gave no clue as to how to download the hotfix. Very annoying.

Microsoft finally offers free anti-virus

Microsoft's free anti-virus option is now out of beta and publicly available. You can get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/default.aspx

I'm still evaluating it on Windows 7, but so far it seems ok. It is a free option for any geniune Windows that runs Win XP or later.

Microsoft's recommendations for speeding up a PC

I found this page that talks about Microsoft's recommendations for speeding up a PC. I think these recommendations are crap, but it's something:
